A Theory of Media Multitasking Intensity

Abstract. This article first situates media multitasking in the changing ecology. Then, grounded concepts of stress and flow, limited capacity, threaded cognition, it develops a four-dimensional theory intensity. Based on key aspects intensity, subsequent section proposes two primary influences (executive functioning self-regulation) one outcome (general stress). An application example focuses several issues for adolescents within their family environment. The final suggests few methodological implications studying intensity (self-report, both temporal social contexts). generates insights about functional (i.e., valuable) variation experiences as they overlap with interrupt physical mediated world.
